Pu'An Lu Childrens Market

Last week I went to the Childrens Market on Pu'An Lu.  First thing, it is pretty clean, and the bathrooms weren't too stinky!  Very much a good thing.  Secondly, once you get down the stairs, the entire market is all one level, so using a stroller is easy to do.  (I hate some of the other markets around town that are 3 stories tall and require taking a stroller and baby up and down the escalators!).

When first walking in, I was pleasantly surprised by all the cute clothing and the boutique-feel that a lot of the clothing stores have in the layout.

There are also PLENTY of toy stores and kiosks, including a store in the back that sells brand name/legit toys (like a mini Toys R Us), so you can buy actual Legos here instead of dragging your kids to a mall.  The kiosks had tons of stickers and plenty of Angry Birds and Descpicable Me stuff.  I'm glad I went shopping while my boys were in school, or we would've never walked past this section:

In general, the clothing is geared towards 2-6 year old girls.  There is some boys clothing, some a little too "asian trendy" for my tastes, but at least it's available!  In the back, there is also a soft play area (I forget the price and I forgot to take a photo) with bar-height seating for parents to sit and watch their kids.  Good idea for the dads!!  You can also find stores filled with swim suits/gear, pajamas, 0-12 mo. baby stuff (including split-crotch pants for early pottytraining--more on that topic later!), Halloween costumes, and even a few women's clothing shops.

Lots of fakes here, of course! And bargain, of course!

Here is a photo of fake Burberry and fake Ralph Lauren dresses:

I went there to get some winter pajamas for my oldest boy.  I ended up buying 1 pair of knock-off Gap pajamas and 1 pair of cozy/furry ones (they have Next tags on the inside, but they are DEFINITELY not from Next nor have Next ever made any jammies remotely like these!)  I bought them mainly because my boy loves fleecy jammies.  They weren't dirt-cheap (if I remember correctly, we talked the seller down to about 40rmb=$6USD), but the quality was decent, and the fake Gap ones look and feel real, without the high price.  The furry ones cost a little more, but I forget the exact price.

For reference, here is a photo of a pair of authentic Gymboree "Gymmies" from the store inside the Grand Gateway Mall in Xuhui.  Note the price, 249rmb for one pair---OUCH!!!!  Understand why I bought fake jammies now?!

I also got my oldest a pair of fake Joules sweatpants (joggers).  They were 40rmb (or 2 pairs for 70rmb).  A fraction of what real ones would cost.  I didn't buy them necessarily because they are Joules, but I bought them because my son needs some joggers for lazy days around the house, and these were the nicest looking pair.

And for my middle boy, some swimming stuff!  The hooded towel was 40rmb (I stood firm on the price I wanted because the seller was really rude and blocked the exit to the store and kept grabbing my arm.  I HATE pushy sellers! I'm shocked that they don't get punched!  Then we bought the Phineas and Ferb bathing suit set for 70rmb at a different store.  It has Disney store price tags on it, so presentable for a gift too.  (Is P&F supposed to be colored in?!  I don't know, but still think it's cute as-is). That seller was super nice and not pushy at all, so we were willing to pay more for it. Friendly and nice=more money and everyone's happy!

In all, it is an interesting place to shop for kids stuff.  I can see myself going back there when my baby girl gets a little older, or shopping for birthday or Christmas gifts.
